Students of University of Hyderabad who are preparing for competitive exams or attending to official internships will be permitted to avail hostel accommodation during the ensuing summer vacation so that they can continue to use library and internet facilities. About 450 students who have applied for this with valid proof have already been accorded permission. The deadline for applying for the same was April 07, 2018.
Those students who wish to stay on campus during this period will all be accommodated in a handful of hostels in order to rationalize use of electricity and water, and management of messes. This will also allow the University to take up much-needed maintenance and repairs of some hostels. Students are advised to cooperate and, where necessary, move into other hostels on the campus for the summer.
The University spends, on an average, about Rs.9.5 crore per annum on electricity, water and internet charges on hostels. However, the rising costs of maintenance coupled with acute shortage of water supply has compelled the university to charge students wanting to stay back during vacation. The University will charge a subsidized fee of Rs.500 per month for general category students. Students belonging to OBC category will be charged Rs.375 per month, and SC/ST students are exempted from any payment towards accommodation.
The University is committed to providing better facilities to students despite rising costs, on the one hand, and a massive reduction in funding, on the other.
